Maui Water Heaters
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How often should I replace the water heater in my island home?
A: We recommend replacing water heaters over six years old. Water heaters over 10 years old should be replaced as preventative maintenance on your home. Making this decision early ensure you will avoid flooding or costly damage to your home from a broken or leaking water heater.
Q: Why should I replace my water heater if it’s not leaking or showing any signs of failure?
A: The main benefit of upgrading to a new water heater is energy savings. Old water heaters use more energy than newer models simply because of their age. Another reason to upgrade is that water heaters can break suddenly and without warning (and probably will someday), which can lead to flooding and costly damage. The thermostat can also fail suddenly, resulting in too hot water or no hot water at all.
Q: Are there any common visible signs of water heater malfunction or failure? What should I look for?
A: Yes, some of the most common visible signs of broken water heaters are: leaking anywhere from the water heater; noisy water heater or you simply aren’t getting hot water intermittently, frequently or suddenly. Those are all signs you should get it checked and replaced immediately.
